SOPPENG-Tipikorinvestigasinews.id- January 14, 2025 – Investigators from the Soppeng District Prosecutor’s Office have named two women, identified by their initials HI and HA, as suspects in an alleged corruption case involving business loans at a state-owned bank in Soppeng Regency. The two suspects reportedly acted as loan brokers, causing significant financial losses to the state.
The decision to name them as suspects was made after investigators gathered sufficient evidence. The Head of the Intelligence Section at the Soppeng Prosecutor’s Office, Rekafit M, S.H., stated that 11 witnesses have been questioned in connection with this case. The suspect designation was outlined in Investigation Orders No. B-03/P.4.20/Fd.2/01/2025 and No. B-04/P.4.20/Fd.2/01/2025, both dated January 14, 2025.
Phantom Loan Modus Operandi
The suspects, HI and HA, are accused of using a scheme known as Phantom Loans. They allegedly applied for loans using other people’s identities, then diverted the funds for personal use.
The investigation revealed their collaboration with two previously identified suspects, RR and NM. RR reportedly recommended the loan applications to NM, a bank officer. Without following proper verification procedures, NM approved the loans, and RR received a fee or commission from HI as a reward for facilitating the scheme.
One Suspect Already Serving a Sentence
One of the suspects, Hasrianti, is not in custody as she is currently serving a prison sentence for theft. According to Case Number 4/Pid.B/2024/PN WNS dated March 19, 2024, Hasrianti was sentenced to four years in prison.
Legal Violations
The suspects are accused of violating several provisions in Indonesia’s anti-corruption laws, including:
1. Primary Charges: Article 2 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Crimes, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) Point 1 and Article 64 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP).
2. Subsidiary Charges: Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999, as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) Point 1 and Article 64 of the KUHP.
Commitment to Justice
The Soppeng Prosecutor’s Office remains committed to thoroughly investigating this case. “We will continue to examine the roles of all suspects to ensure that everyone involved is held accountable,” said Rekafit M, S.H.
This case underscores the Prosecutor’s Office’s efforts to combat corruption that undermines public trust and causes financial harm to the state.
